4 Steps Toward Getting Your Washington, D.C. Salesperson License

Getting a real estate license in Washington, D.C. might seem daunting, but we’re here to guide you through the process.

To start:

  • You must first be able to read, write, and understand the English language.
  • You must be a high school graduate or the holder of a high school equivalency certficiate
  • You must not have had a real estate application denied within the last year, other than failure to pass the required examination.
  • You must not have had a real estate license suspended or revoked in D.C. or elsewhere.

  1. Complete 60 hours of approved Pre-Licensing education.

  2. Pass the course final exam.

    After you complete all the course materials, meet the minimum time requirement, and pass the practice exam, there is a course final exam. The minimum passing score is 75%.

  3. Pass the D.C. Real Estate Salesperson Exam.

    Next, you must take and pass the D.C. licensing exam, which is administered by PSI. The National portion of this exam consists of 80 questions and a 120-minute time allowance and the State portion consists of 30 questions and a 90-minute time allowance.   4. Complete the application for licensure.
